Dear Friend,

Over the past two months, AFSC and partners have delivered food, tents, blankets, hygiene items, and other critical supplies to earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria. Thank you to everyone who has supported our efforts! Read the latest update from AFSC’s Bilal Olimat, who shares how our work is making a difference. [link removed]

Here are this week's picks to inform and support your activism:

Speak out to expand free school meals to more children: [link removed]\t%20%22_blank Did you know that the USDA allows school boards to provide free meals to all students in schools where 40% or more are considered low income? Now the USDA is proposing to lower that threshold to 25%, which would expand free school meals to millions of children. We must speak out to show our support for the change. The public has until May 8 to submit comments to the federal government—so your voice is needed now. Note: Comments must be unique in order to be considered. Add your comment today. [link removed]

New study: Majority in U.S. want diplomacy, not war: [link removed] More than half of people in the U.S. believe that the U.S. should pursue nonmilitary responses to conflict. That’s according to AFSC’s latest study, which surveyed 1,000 adults across demographics and political affiliations, on their views of peace and conflict. Read more about our findings from AFSC’s Beth Hallowell.

Protecting our right to housing: [link removed] Across the U.S., people are facing evictions, hazardous housing conditions, bad landlords, and gentrification. With support from AFSC, homeowners and renters in Atlanta are pushing back—and organizing to ensure safe, affordable housing for all.

Help Palestinian elders meet basic needs in Gaza: [link removed] AFSC has launched a new project to provide wheelchairs, walkers, mattresses, and other supplies to housebound elders in Gaza. These items are hard to come by and can vastly improve quality of life for many seniors. Donate today to help deliver these supplies and support our advocacy for peace in the region.

Stories from AFSC’s history: [link removed] The AFSC Archives have been used by scholars and researchers the world over. Over the past year, several books have been published that draw from our archives and describe AFSC’s work in key moments in history. Learn more about AFSC’s longtime work for peace and justice through these new books.

Be well and take care
