Here are some court updates from today.

In this morning’s opinion drop, the U.S. Supreme Court did not release decisions in Merrill v. Milligan or Moore v. Harper. However, the Court scheduled more opinion release days for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. [link removed]

President Joe Biden announced new judicial nominees to the 5th and 9th U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals. Biden has named 163 nominees to federal judicial posts so far. Learn more about how federal judges are nominated and confirmed and the role that "blue slips" play in the process. [link removed]

Here are some legislative updates from yesterday.

The Texas Senate passed Senate Bill 1933 on a party line vote, a bill that would empower the governor-appointed secretary of state to take over election oversight from local county officials. The bill now goes to the Texas House. [link removed]

The Minnesota House passed the Democracy for the People Act. The bill would allow 16- and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote, establish automatic voter registration at many state agencies and more. Get a full breakdown of the omnibus pro-voting legislation here. [link removed]

Here’s what to expect coming up.

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court will issue an order list announcing some of the cases it will hear. We're watching to see if the Court takes a redistricting case from Ohio or a felony disenfranchisement case from Mississippi.
