John,
At a time when countless American families are still recovering from economic turmoil caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Speaker McCarthy and members of the House Majority want to gut the very programs that have served as lifelines for millions.
The Republican Study Committee's proposed budget plan for 2023 aims to significantly reduce or eliminate essential benefits that millions of Americans depend on including devastating cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and SNAP, effectively ending coverage and assistance for those who need it most.
If these Republican threats succeed, the consequences would be catastrophic. It would undoubtedly lead to an economic default, with the retirement savings of millions of Americans jeopardized. The stability of the economy is crucial for working people and any attempt to compromise it in the name of politics is irresponsible and dangerous.
It is our moral obligation to ensure that our elected officials prioritize the livelihoods of working people over partisan politics.
Demand Speaker McCarthy and members of the House Majority abandon their extreme budget proposals and work together to prioritize the livelihoods of working people.
Social Security provides a safety net for seniors, the disabled, and survivors of deceased workers. Medicare and Medicaid offer healthcare to millions of elderly, disabled, and low-income Americans, while the Affordable Care Act has expanded healthcare coverage to millions more. SNAP ensures that struggling families can put food on their tables.
Cutting or eliminating these benefits would have a disastrous impact on the lives of millions of Americans.
Without access to affordable healthcare, people would be forced to forego necessary treatments and medications, leading to worsening health outcomes and, in some cases, even death. The loss of SNAP benefits would leave families struggling to feed themselves, exacerbating food insecurity and malnutrition in our country. And without the support of Social Security, seniors, and disabled individuals would be left without a stable source of income, pushing them into poverty and despair.
We must not stand idly by while the House GOP gambles with the well-being of millions of Americans. It is our duty to make our voices heard and to hold our elected representatives accountable.
Demand that Speaker McCarthy and members of the House Majority abandon their extreme budget proposals and work together to prioritize the livelihoods of working people.
The time is now to fiercely defend these essential programs that have served as lifelines for so many. We must not let ruthless partisan politics rip apart the very fabric of our society.
