Dear John,
Congress is currently in a district work period, and I've been busy here in Southern California meeting with educators, small business owners, and community leaders to hear first hand accounts of the challenges facing my constituents and coming up with solutions to bring back to Washington, D.C. I came together with the other three Korean American members of Congress to honor Kimchi, and the deadlines for a number of student opportunities are approaching.
Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to get these updates in real-time.

Standing Up to Sacramento Overreach |
|
Governor Newsom and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) have issued a mandate that half of all heavy vehicles (trucks and tractors) sold in California must be electric by 2035. This heavy handed and misguided order will harm our already-fragile supply chains and create massive burdens on our economy.
That's why, this week, I joined Rep. David Valadao (R-CA) and other members of the California congressional delegation in sending a letter to the Governor calling on him to reverse course immediately.
We need to be working to rebuild our economy, not further harming it.

Honoring Korean American Heritage |
|
This week, I introduced a resolution with Reps. Young Kim (R-CA), Marilyn Strickland (D-WA) and Andy Kim (D-NJ), to designate November 22 as “Kimchi Day."
Kimchi is just one example of the rich cultural, culinary, and historical traditions that Koreans have brought to the United States. As a first generation Korean American, and a lover of kimchi, I am proud to introduce this resolution in support of a national day to honor the impact of this important dish and the incredible Korean American community that has contributed so much to our great country.

Get Your Education, Serve Our Nation |
|
For students considering their next steps after high school, the Military Service Academies present an exciting opportunity to receive a world-class education and unmatched leadership skills, paid for by the U.S. Military. The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA); the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA); and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
To request a Military Academy Nomination from my office, please complete the form on my website, and someone my office will be in touch with additional information. In the mean time, visit my website to learn more about the application process.
My team will be hosting an information night for interested applicants. Representatives from the U.S. Military Naval, Air Force, Merchant Marine, and Coast Guard Academies will be present to answer your questions about what it means to attend one of these institutions.
When: April 18, 2023 from 6:00-8:00pm Where: Buena Park City Hall Chamber Room 6650 Beach Blvd. Buena Park, CA 90622 RSVP: email [email protected]

This week, I convened business leaders in Cerritos and Buena park for a pair of roundtable discussions of the challenges facing our business owners and ways we can work together to ensure a more business friendly Southern California. I am committed to finding ways that Congress can better support small businesses and fight back against the effects of inflation.
