Dear Friend,

This past weekend as many of us were enjoying the Easter weekend, an unfathomable tragedy struck western Wisconsin as two of our law enforcement officers had their lives taken by a senseless act of violence.

No amount of words can express the loss our community feels for the fallen heroes of the Village of Cameron Police Department and Chetek Police Department. My prayers continue to go out to the families and loved ones of Emily Breidenbach and Hunter Scheel, as well as to the entire law enforcement community who put on their badges every day to keep us safe.

Even in this time of darkness, our community has been a leading light. Whether it’s baking cookies in their honor, changing your light bulbs to blue, donating money to the local departments, or being one of the thousands who gathered for the candlelight vigil, I am so thankful and proud to be a part of our community and its outpouring amount of support and love. On Saturday, I will be attending the funeral service at Cameron High School to pay my respect to these local heroes. The details for Saturday’s funeral service can be found here.

On Tuesday at my listening sessions in Barron and St. Croix County, all attendees joined together in a moment of silence for Officer Breidenbach and Officer Scheel. I want to thank everyone who came out to the listening sessions and for being a part of our community healing.

At the listening sessions, I also enjoyed conversations about the crisis at the southern border, the environment, what I’m doing in Washington to hold the government accountable, and the official end of the COVID-19 pandemic (more on that later).

We also discussed the need to expand and ensure veterans and our service members are receiving the care they deserve. Our veterans took care of us, and now it is our duty to take care of them.

That’s why I am working to expand healthcare options for disabled veterans and enable service-connected veterans the ability to use TRICARE Select and TRICARE for Life. For that reason, I cosponsored the Veterans’ True Choice Act introduced by Representative Steube (FL-17).

This important legislation would allow veterans to use local providers if a local VA facility does not offer services that they may need and would ensure that veterans would not have to wait for the care they deserve. You can read more about this important bill here.

Thanks again for starting your weekend off with the Tiffany Telegram. We will be back next week with more.

Sincerely,

Thank you to everyone who came out to my in-person listening sessions in Barron and St. Croix County.

Delivering for Wisconsinites
Navigating through IRS paperwork can be difficult and take hours, especially if you are a business. That’s why when Fraser Shipyards in Superior reached out to my office for help with the Employee Retention Credit, we sprang into action. As a result, Lake Assault Boats was able to receive roughly $524,000 back from the IRS to help keep employees on their payroll. Here’s what Fraser Shipyards has to say about my team’s work, “Many thanks to Congressman Tiffany and his team for all their efforts in reaching out to the IRS on our behalf. They facilitated having our inquiries answered and appreciated the significance for a small business operating in one of the nation’s critical industries, that timely responses are important.” If you are in a similar situation and struggling with a federal agency, please reach out to my office today to see if we might be able to help.

Ending Biden’s authoritarian emergency authority
As Telegram readers know, it has been over three years since the COVID-19 national emergency began and seven months since the President announced on national television that the pandemic was over. Despite his public declaration, President Biden never got around to officially ending the emergency declaration on his own accord, probably because doing so would have also put an end to all of the extra emergency powers he was enjoying. That’s why I introduced H.J. Res 7 along with my colleague Rep. Paul Gosar (AZ-09) to end the national emergency and Joe Biden’s authoritarian abuse and restore the democratic checks and balances the American people have demanded. I’m pleased to report that while the President initially expressed opposition, this week he ultimately relented and signed our resolution into law. This is a great first step towards restoring the freedoms of the American people that were too often trampled on over the last couple of years. That said, there are still many unanswered questions surrounding COVID-19 and its origin that House Republicans will continue to investigate – which is central to ensuring that the mistakes of the past are not repeated.

Opening America’s borders…and wallets
For the last two years, Americans have seen the destructive impacts of President Biden’s open-borders policies:  Back-to-back, record-breaking years for illegal immigration and drug smuggling, an unprecedented number of suspected terrorists encountered trying to slip into our country, a massive spike in migrants from as far away as Communist China – even chaos breaking out on America’s northern border. And it’s about to get worse. That’s because President Biden announced plans this week to give illegal aliens access to taxpayer-funded health care benefits through Medicaid and Obamacare. President Biden says that they’ve “earned it” and suggested that there is really no difference between foreign migrants and U.S. citizens. It’s a terrible idea, one that will only encourage more illegal immigration – while sticking hard-working Americans like you with the bill. In other words, President Biden has opened our borders to millions of illegal aliens – and now he wants to open your wallets for them, too. You can read more about his disastrous proposal, and what I had to say about it, here.

Biden’s latest EPA smokescreen
On Wednesday, the Biden Administration’s EPA announced a
proposed rule regarding vehicle pollution standards for tailpipe emissions. The proposed standards would affect cars produced from 2027 through 2032 and essentially force the phasing out of combustion engines in favor of electric vehicles. This change would result in about 67% of car purchases being electric by 2032. But this isn’t really about the environment. It’s just the latest effort by Washington bureaucrats to control the behavior of hardworking Americans – this time through market-distorting rule changes that will make it harder to produce vehicles with conventional engines. Currently, there is a significant price gap between the average EV and gas-powered car – $64,338 to $26,101, respectively. So not only is the government effectively telling you what car you have to buy, they are making you pony up for the more expensive one. This is a bad idea –one that Americans don’t want and can’t afford – and I’m committed to doing everything I can to steer it onto the exit ramp.

Committee Update

Judiciary
Who’s the FBI going after now?
If you guessed American churchgoers, you would unfortunately be correct. This week, it was reported that President Biden’s FBI is snooping on some members of the Catholic Church based on their religious beliefs in order to label them as violent extremists. This follows a pattern of repeated behavior from the Biden administration in which they also labeled concerned parents who spoke out at local school board meetings as domestic terrorists. Enough is enough. That’s why this week, the House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena demanding FBI Director Christopher Wray testify before the committee. I believe we must do more to hold the FBI accountable, and I plan on using every tool at my disposal, including the Holman rule, to fire agenda-driven bureaucrats that seem to spend all of their time treating law-abiding Americans into criminals.

Natural Resources
Extreme fire danger warning
Wisconsin has been seeing a rise in wildfires across the state with a total of 38 counties under a Red Flag Warning due to a high outdoor fire risk and nearly 100 wildfires reported this past week. My office recommends you refrain from any burning for the time being. Much of Wisconsin Seventh District falls under the area that requires a burning permit year-round, to determine if you live in this area check here. For more information on counties currently under the DNR burn restriction, check out the map here. Please use extreme caution, be alert, and remember that burning is currently prohibited in areas that require a DNR-issued burning permit. I want to thank our firefighters and first responders who have been working around the clock to contain the wildfires and protect our communities.

Federal Lands Subcommittee
Protecting America’s public lands
On Tuesday, I enjoyed joining the Douglas County Forestry Department for there their annual industry listening session in Solon Springs. It was very informative to hear about current issues, opportunities, and challenges facing the forest industry, and as the Chairman of the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands, I look forward to protecting multiple-use values on America’s public lands and prioritizing better management of those lands to ensure Wisconsin’s forest products industry is not being hamstrung by red tape.

The Douglas County Spring Forest Industry Gathering was very informative, and I thank all our forest industry stakeholders and hardworking contractors for their hard work

District Update

Speeding up local infrastructure projects
Last week, I joined the Wisconsin Towns Association in Cumberland and Cable for their latest district meetings. I enjoyed giving a legislative update and talking about how H.R. 1 will speed up the cumbersome and time-consuming permitting process for local infrastructure projects. Our taxpayer dollars need to be spent on building concrete, steel, and asphalt, not being frittered away on paperwork and red tape. H.R. 1 passed the House on a bipartisan basis and will help ensure that critical local infrastructure projects aren’t held up by years of delay.

Congratulations to Paper People
Please join me in congratulating Paper People in Elcho for being named a finalist in the U.S. Plastics Pact Sustainable Packaging Innovation Awards. When House Natural Resources Committee’s Chairman Bruce Westerman (AR-04) and I visited Paper People last year we were amazed by their innovative, one-of-a-kind packaging that offers a completely recyclable, sustainable, and renewable product. They continue to be an industry leader in recyclable packaging, and I congratulate them on being a finalist for the second year in a row for the Plastics Pact Sustainable Packaging Innovation Awards.

Photo of the week
This week’s photo of the week is a little different than usual, but I wanted to highlight this amazing ariel photo of Fraser Shipyards in Superior with the Blatnik Bridge in the background. The Twin Ports is vital to our local economy and is a vital part of our nation’s exported cargo – shipping commodities like grain, limestone, and coal. If you would like your picture to be featured next, please email it to [email protected] with your name and location.
