The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 118th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.

Introducing New Legislation to Defund Weaponized and Lawless Manhattan DA Office

Yesterday, I introduced two bills to hold the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, led by District Attorney Alvin Bragg, accountable for its failure to address lawlessness in the region and for utilizing federal resources in the political prosecution of former U.S. President Donald J. Trump.

The Accountability for Lawless Violence In Our Neighborhoods Act or the ALVIN Act prohibits federal funds from being awarded to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and requires the Office to repay federal funds granted after January 1, 2022.

The No Federal Funds for Political Prosecutions Act prohibits state or local law enforcement agencies from using funds or property seized through asset forfeiture, to investigate or prosecute the President, Vice President, or a candidate for the office of President in a criminal case.

District Attorney Alvin Bragg ran on a campaign pledge to indict President Trump. Bragg took the unprecedented action of converting alleged minor business misdemeanors to 34 individual felonies in an attempt to put President Trump behind bars and humiliate him and his supporters.

This weaponized prosecutor's office has spent thousands of federal taxpayer dollars to subsidize this political indictment and is demanding millions more in federal grants. It’s disturbing to see District Attorney Bragg waste federal resources for political purposes rather than addressing the serious crime in his city.

As a member of the House Judiciary and Oversight & Accountability Committees, and with an almost insurmountable national debt that exceeds $31 trillion, the nation simply cannot afford to support Mr. Bragg’s politicization of the criminal justice system.

The Accountability for Lawless Violence In Our Neighborhoods Act or the ALVIN Act text may be read here.

Cosponsors of the Accountability for Lawless Violence In Our Neighborhoods Act or the ALVIN Act include: Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ), Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), and Rep. Bob Good (R-VA).

The No Federal Funds for Political Prosecutions Act text may be read here.

Tucson Sector Border Tour

I toured various portions of the Tucson Sector along the Arizona-Mexico border with Chairman of the House Oversight & Accountability Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs Glenn Grothman (R-WI).

We attended a U.S. Border Patrol briefing and surveyed several sections of the border. Immigration officials in the Tucson Sector are currently encountering more than 23,000 illegal aliens a month, which is five times greater than what was seen during President Trump’s final year in the Oval Office.

There has also been a 2,500% increase in Chinese nationals arriving in this sector between January and February, the latest data available.

I am grateful for the courageous men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol and will continue to advocate for my immigration and border bills in the House of Representatives. I have the solutions to end the Biden Border Crisis ready to go. Check them out below!

H.Res.89 - Impeaching Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, for high crimes and misdemeanors

H.R. 114 - Fund and Complete the Border Wall Act

H.R.92 - State Immigration Enforcement Act

H.R.86 - Ending Catch and Release Act of 2023

H.R. 87 - Grant’s Law, to detain any alien who is unlawfully present in the United States and is arrested for certain criminal offenses.

H.R. 1901 - Stopping Border Surges Act

H.R. 85 - To amend Title 28, United States Code, to provide that the United States district court for the District of Columbia shall have exclusive jurisdiction over actions arising under the immigration laws, and for other purposes.

Mesa Airlines Phoenix Facility Tour

I toured Mesa Airlines’ Phoenix training facility this week. Built in 2017, this facility features trainer aircrafts, more than a dozen classrooms, and prepares hundreds of pilots and flight attendants to fly our skies successfully each year.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to see how this Arizona-based airline prepares its staff and to learn more about the economic opportunities it provides to Arizonans.

I will be back soon!

Axon Accelerate Visit

I had the opportunity to visit Axon Accelerate—the nation’s largest law enforcement technology conference. More than 1,500 law enforcement personnel travel here to receive training and updates on the latest life saving technology.

I received demonstrations on the latest taser and body camera equipment. I also spoke to CEO of Axon Enterprise Rick Smith about the importance of law enforcement and these technologies.

I applaud the work of Axon Accelerate and will continue to advocate for law enforcement at the congressional level.

Jack Holder Memorial Service

I had the privilege of attending the memorial service for Jack Holder, a constituent, U.S. Navy veteran, and dear friend of mine.

Jack recently passed away at the age of 101 and significantly helped Allied efforts in World War II.

Earlier this Congress, I honored Jack on the House Floor.

I will never forget his love for the United States, our Constitution, and our freedoms.

I pray that future generations will appreciate and follow his example.

“Fair winds, and Following Seas,” my friend. You will never be forgotten.

Definition of the Week

This week, National Public Radio (NPR) abruptly quit Twitter due to Elon Musk assigning it a “government-funded” label.

NPR is funded by the federal government every year despite its negative bias towards conservatives. This is why I have cosponsored legislation to defund NPR. The private market should decide how it is funded.

In response to Elon’s move, NPR claimed that it only “produces consequential, independent journalism every day in service to the public.”

Read any headline from this week. You’ll see the bias.

Inspired by NPR, here is the definition of the week:

NPR: A propaganda wing of the Democrat Party.
