[1]Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress
Anyone who knows Alexandria knows that she is obsessed with sunscreen —
and affordable skincare — so as summer approaches, we wanted to share some
of her tips and favorite products from her congressional delegation trip
to Japan and South Korea. Not an ad, just some helpful tips!
Sunscreen:
Unfortunately, the FDA is woefully behind on approving new sunscreen
ingredients in the U.S. — the rest of the world is decades ahead on
sunscreen technology.
Daily sunscreen is regulated by the FDA, which in theory is a good thing —
but in practice, this means that only a handful of old-school active
ingredients are FDA-approved for sun protection. Many of the more advanced
formulas available in countries like Japan and South Korea aren't
available to U.S. consumers. (You can read more on this [ [link removed] ]here.)
Two of Alexandria’s ride-or-die sunscreen products are Beauty of Joseon
and Bioré UV Aqua Rich (pictured below, on the left ). They are light, not
oily, and have no white cast. The two products on the right are ones
Alexandria is currently trying out.

Double Cleansing:
Alexandria has tried a lot of different cleansing balms, but she tends to
come back to Clean it Zero products.

Spot Erasers:
Spot erasers are good to have on hand, especially when you need to clear
up a trouble spot quickly without hurting your skin.
She likes Cosrx’s snail mucin and honey toner.

Hair sticks, face masks and more:
For long plane rides or stressful days, Alexandria recommends using a
heated eye mask. She picked up a few (pictured below), along with a hair
stick and some regular face masks.

It’s best to buy reusable products when possible, but we know that can be
hard, especially when it comes to travel. For some with disabilities,
single-use items can be a necessity.
Most of these items can be found online or locally! At Team AOC, we
encourage shopping locally when possible to support small, community-owned
businesses.
Thanks for reading,
Team AOC
