Fighting for our Daughters

Last week, the Department of Education released a proposed rule change to Title IX that would require schools to allow biological males to participate in women's sports. The proposed rule would apply to all public K-12 schools, as well as colleges, universities, and other institutions that receive federal funding.

Besides the fact that this dangerous rule is a gross overstep of executive branch authority by the Biden administration, the consequences would be detrimental for women and girls. Due to this change, our daughters would be forced to compete with biological males. This rule would not only jeopardize women’s athletic opportunities but also their scholarship and academic opportunities.

This rule will also contradict legislation that was passed in Texas to protect female athletes, requiring transgender athletes to play on teams that align with the gender listed on their original birth certificate.

Under no circumstance should our daughters and granddaughters be deprived of athletic and academic opportunities because of this administration’s radical, woke agenda. Title IX was meant to protect women’s sports, but Biden’s Department of Education is now weaponizing the federal rulemaking process to destroy women’s athletic and academic protections and opportunities.

Once this proposed Title IX rule change is published by the Department of Education, it will be open for public comment for 30 days. While I will be fighting this overstep in Washington D.C., if you would like to voice your concerns, feel free to contact my office and we will notify you when it opens.

The Afghanistan Withdrawal was NOT a Success.

Last week, the Biden administration released its review of how it handled the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. Instead of acknowledging their failures and holding those responsible accountable, the Biden administration deflected any criticism and even congratulated themselves.

Let’s be clear — this Administration bears the responsibility for the botched handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal and for the 13 American lives needlessly lost.

In no way, shape, or form is this a success story. Therefore, I have repeatedly called on President Biden, Secretary of State Blinken, General Milley, and anyone else responsible for this disaster to resign. We must hold this administration accountable for their complete incompetence in leading America on the international stage and for the needless American lives lost.

Working for the District

This past week, I met with enCore Energy in Corpus Christi to discuss ways nuclear energy can increase our domestic energy production. As we continue to develop reliable and affordable energy for American families and businesses, nuclear energy is one of the most efficient options. It is important that Congress champions policies that will increase uranium production in the U.S. so that we have a stable supply for nuclear energy production.

Businesses in Texas like enCore Energy are crucial to fueling our state’s economy and adding jobs to our local communities. I look forward to seeing their continued impact in Texas.

I also had the opportunity to sit down with Mayor Guajardo of Corpus Christi to discuss a variety of topics, including Corpus Christ’s military installations, disaster relief reform, and developing the city’s infrastructure.

I met with Col. Rhett Blackmon of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to talk over the Matagorda Ship Channel Improvement Project and the permit application for the Axis Midstream Pipeline and Terminal Project. These two projects are crucial to the district and I am keen to see them continue to make steady progress.

It was a pleasure to meet with some of you in Port Lavaca when I stopped by last week. After several weeks in Washington, it was great to be back in the district and have the opportunity to hear from people directly.

Art Competition!

The 2023 Congressional Art Competition is underway! This annual competition highlights talented students from across the country, and I want to spread the word in our communities. I am looking forward to seeing our students' creativity! Any high school student in Texas' 27th Congressional District may submit art to either my Corpus Christi or Victoria office for consideration. The deadline for submission is April 24th at 5:00 PM. Visit my website HERE for more information.

He is Risen!

I hope you and your families had a great Easter Sunday this past week and were able to reflect on the importance of faith as we remembered the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

He is risen!
