Last week, I was honored to join veterans and leaders from our community at the Schaumburg Post Office as we celebrated its official renaming as the Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial Post Office Building. I'm pleased that this post office, renamed through legislation I authored, is the first post office in the country to be named after the veterans of our nation’s two most recent conflicts. The debt of gratitude we owe our veterans, and their families is immense, and my hope is that this post office will play a small part in showing our nation’s heroes the respect and gratitude that they deserve.
While the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are our nation’s most recent conflicts, they are far from the only ones generations of Americans have fought to defend our freedom. That is why I am proud to have recently introduced my bill to rename the post office at 616 E. Main St. in St. Charles, Illinois as the “Veterans of the Vietnam War Memorial Post Office.” By renaming this post office in St. Charles in honor of these veterans, I hope that the St. Charles community will remember the immense bravery and sacrifices made by American servicemembers to keep us safe.
