Happy Friday. By the time you read this, the Senate will have already voted and blocked all witnesses (including John Bolton) from testifying in the impeachment trial. Senator Gardner voted in lockstep with his Republican colleagues to ensure that for the first time ever, no witnesses would be called in a Senate Lots of people are angry, because justice will not be served for what Trump has done to our country. We're angry too -- and that's why we do the work to elect Democrats at every level.
Angry and frustrated? Here's what you can do to fight back.
|
There is so much to do to defeat Donald Trump and Cory Gardner, and we need all the help we can get! Help sign postcards, register voters, design posters, every little bit helps!
|
When Democrats turnout to vote, we win. Plain and simple. Make sure your voter registration is up to date. Once you're done with that, ask your friends if their voter registration is up to date!
|
Donald Trump and the Republicans raised nearly a half a billion dollars in 2019. This is what we're up against. They have the special interests and wealthy elite -- but we can beat them if we pull together. Your grassroots donation will help support our field organizing efforts to register new voters and then turn them out to vote in 2020! Whether it's $25, $10, or even $5 -- every little bit helps!

Thanking these Education Champions!
|
CU Regent Members Irene Griego and Linda Shoemaker, and State Board of Education Member Jane Goff.
|
Who would campaign for years, raise money, talk to voters, for a job that pays … $0? Yup, you read it right. ZERO. Someone who is deeply and passionately dedicated to the future of education — that’s who!
We wanted to take some space this to thank three of Colorado's most staunch education advocates who are winding down their final terms in their respective offices! University of Colorado Regents Irene Griego and Linda Shoemaker of Districts 7 and 2 respectively, and State Board of Education member Linda Goff have fought for years for more equitable education opportunities for all Coloradans of all ages!
We thank them for their hard work and service to their state, and we encourage you to thank them if you run into them as well!

OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR THE 3RD ANNUAL OBAMA DINNER:
Congressman Hakeem Jeffries!
|
We're so pleased to tell you that Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has graciously accepted our invitation to be the keynote speaker for the 3rd Annual Obama Dinner!
The Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, Jeffries, who has represented parts of New York City since 2013, sits on the House Judiciary Committee, and is also one of the House impeachment managers alongside Colorado's own Representative Jason Crow!
Congressman Jeffries is an attorney who received his JD from New York University. He is married to Kennisandra Arciniegas-Jeffries, and they have two kids.
Congressman Jeffries recently made headlines when, during a speech he gave before the Senate on day two of the impeachment trial, he quoted deceased rapper Biggie Smalls, who also hailed from Brooklyn:
“We are here, sir, to follow the facts, apply the law, be guided by the Constitution, and present the truth to the American people. That is why we are here, Mr. Sekulow, and if you don’t know, now you know.”

"What's the High Fivers Club", you ask? It started with a simple idea: There are nearly 1.2 million registered Democrats in Colorado -- what if every single one of them gave just $5 a month to the Colorado Democratic Party (CDP)?
Answer: The CDP would be the best-funded state party in the country -- with zero dollars from corporate PACs and plenty for flipping red seats to blue!
If you haven't given to the CDP yet, here are a few simple reasons why we're asking you today:
- The CDP is the central base that supports volunteer recruitment, training candidates, and helping county parties win elections. While the Democratic National Committee provides some limited funds, the reality is it is up to us to raise our own money so we can support Democratic candidates running for office in Colorado.
- We knock on doors and meet with voters to talk about voting Democratic even before we know who our nominees are! As part of the High Fivers Club, you can help us get supplies for volunteers so we can knock on 50,000 more doors before we know our nominee.
- Once we have our nominee, we'll use what we've learned about voters to help them jump-start their Get Out the Voter efforts and stay toe-to-toe with Donald Trump and the Republicans.

Volunteer of the Week: Braeden M.
|
Hello people! My name is Braeden Miguel and I live in the Douglas County area of Colorado. My path to the party was through studying climate change and environmental justice while going to college at CU boulder. After studying there I saw government as the biggest lever for change. And in 2016, after hearing bold leaders fighting for change I knew I had to be more involved.
I volunteer a lot at the Douglas County level but am starting to get more involved with the state and Young Dems as well. I do a lot of working to reorganize and coming up with strategies both online and offline that can engage and activate voters. A big thing in our county and throughout the state is independent and unaffiliated voters and what we can be doing to have them feel heard and come together on the values we share. We have to remember to that we do share values.
The center of the country when you go issue to issue is left. It’s not center, or right, and we saw this in 2018. Talking to my other volunteers and organizers out there, I want to say keep it up. You also have to make sure you take care of yourselves. This will be a long year so it’s important to not burnout and keep your health up. By being grounded, energetic, and value driven we will win over an unprecedented amount of new people into the movement who will help us! With inspiration, I am excited for a year out there alongside you all!

Gardner Sells Out Colorado
|
Cory Gardner had quite a week this week! First -- he was caught on camera dodging a reporter's question on witnesses by escaping into an elevator, which gave birth to this infamous GIF!
|
Then while he maintained that he hadn't decided on witnesses, the Wall Street Journal broke this news:

Late night host Jimmy Fallon couldn't resist making fun of Republican excuses, and poked fun at Gardner.

Then he finally broke the news we knew all along.

Cory Gardner Says He’ll Vote Against Witnesses In Trump Impeachment Trial
From Huffington Post
From the article:
Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) doesn’t want to hear from witnesses in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.
Gardner confirmed his stance in a statement to Colorado Politics on Wednesday.
The electorally vulnerable senator, who is up for reelection in 2020, had been viewed as a potential “yes” vote on the issue. Four Republicans would have to side with Senate Democrats to reach the 51 votes needed to call witnesses.
The Colorado Democratic Party blasted Gardner’s decision.
“Today, after getting caught pushing his colleagues to not call for witnesses, Senator Gardner confirmed what we’ve known all along: he never wanted a fair trial, he was never an impartial juror, and he never wanted to get to the truth,” spokesman David Pourshoushtari told HuffPost in an emailed statement.
“The Senate holding a trial without direct witnesses or key documents isn’t a trial ― it’s a cover up, and Senator Gardner is complicit,” he added. “Instead of upholding his oath, Senator Gardner viewed impeachment as a political calculation, and the people of Colorado will not forget.”
