Friend,
The FDA recently approved the over-the-counter Narcan (naloxone), a medication that reverses opioid overdoses. This is a major step forward in fighting the opioid epidemic, but our work isn’t over yet. We need to tackle the root of the problem, a lack of funding for substance use disorder treatment and Big Pharma’s immense greed.
Treatment for substance use disorder is healthcare, and healthcare is a human right. We have to pass Medicare For All to ensure everyone who wants to begin recovery can without fear of cost or medical debt. We also need to cancel existing medical debt to ease the financial burden on those who have already sought treatment.
Tell Congress: Pass Medicare for All. |
Currently, about 4 in 10 Americans with opioid use disorder are covered under Medicaid, which plays a critical role in funding substance use disorder care. The expiration of COVID-19 protection would kick 15 million Americans off Medicaid and only exacerbate the opioid epidemic. To address the opioid crisis in the long-term and reach a solution, we must ensure that every American has the health coverage they need to seek affordable treatment.
Sign if you agree: It’s time for Congress to pass Medicare for All. Onward,
