Greetings,
We hope you have had a great week thus far! We are a couple weeks into April, so of course that means it is almost the end of tax season. If you still need help filing before the Tuesday, April 18th due date, find free and local tax prep help near you with the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs.
We also want to wish our Sikh American neighbors in New Jersey and across the country a happy Vaisakhi today. As always, we hope you find these updates and resources helpful, more next week!
Congressman Kim Introduces Bipartisan Resolution for a National Kimchi Day
Kimchi holds a special place in the hearts of so many Korean Americans. This week, Congressman Kim and a bipartisan group of Korean American members of Congress introduced a bipartisan resolution to designate November 22 as “Kimchi Day.”
On the year marking the 120th anniversary of the first Korean immigrants’ arrival to the United States and the 70th anniversary of the enduring U.S.-Korea Alliance, a National Kimchi Day would be a special way to honor the Korean American story as a celebrated part of our American story.
Congressman Kim and Colleagues File Amicus Brief to Protect Mifepristone
This week, Congressman Kim and 239 of his colleagues signed onto an amicus brief challenging a Texas judge’s recent ruling to suspend the medication Mifepristone. The FDA approved medicine is essential to accessing safe, effective, and comprehensive reproductive healthcare and this ruling threatens its access across the country. Yesterday, a federal appeals court blocked this judge’s ruling and declined to block the pill’s access. However, the ruling imposed its own restrictions, including preventing access to the pill by mail.
Congressman Kim will keep fighting to protect women’s healthcare freedoms in New Jersey and across the country. This week our team attended briefings on what is expected next as the Justice Department’s appeal of the ruling moves forward and the legal battle continues.
