Legislative Update

Congratulations to the Aitkin Gobblers Softball team for the strong start to their season. This past week they were victorious in their game against the Cardinals with a final score of 20 ? 2. They have started their season off with an undefeated 2-0 record that will be sure to grab the attention of their future competitors. Wishing the team all the best in the rest of their season.

On the house floor this week we heard the first of the budget omnibus bills, this one for higher education. While parts of the bill such as the tuition freeze are amiable the overall 18.5% budget increase and reckless spending make it impossible for me to support in its current form. Unchecked spending is seemingly becoming a theme this session as a number of proposals include tax increases to fund new expenditures, even with a 17.5 Billion dollar surplus. The coming weeks will see even more spending come to the floor to build out the next two-year budget.

This weekend the Great River Arts is hosting a hilarious comedy show with Jason Schommer. ?Mistakes were Made? is a mix of standup and storytelling that should have you laughing at every turn.
