Check out the return of the Caravan of Love and more!

PROGRAM UPDATES:
Shelter Aid:

Some of our favorite moments from the return of the Caravan of Love to Templo Embajadores de Jesus shelter. We had an amazing time driving over much needed donations of new clothes, hygiene products, toys, food and more! This shelter is the largest we support, and director Pastor Banda continues to assist as many migrant families housing roughly 1600 people, many of them women and children.

We could not have had a more beautiful experience, because of our staff but especially because of our amazing volunteers. Thank you to Marlene, Ana, Marian, Osvaldo, Edward, Luis, and David. A special shoutout to:
* Marino and Omar, for lending their barber skills and staying extra long to provide as many cuts as possible.
* Albana, a beloved volunteer who helped with every aspect of our Caravan.
* Elexia, for hosting a donation drive and providing a huge heap of donations for the day.
* Jeff Dean for returning to our Caravan with so many donations and even directing traffic in Tijuana!
* Sabrina Chang and the group of exchange students who changed their vacation days in order to join this event.
* Psicologos Sin Fronteras for supporting our Shelter Aid as always, and coordinating games and activities for the children.

Stay tuned for our next Caravan of Love, you can email [email protected] for more info on upcoming events!

Green Cards for Kids:
[link removed]
Our Green Cards for Kids program continues to help children that have been abused, abandoned, or neglected by one or both of their parents. We are currently assisting over a dozen children achieve Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, which is a pathway to a green card (also known as a legal permanent residence). Attorney Fabiola Navarro continues to fight passionately for each and every one of them, on instance even halting deportation proceedings.

for Kids program.
Day Laborer Outreach:

We visited day laborers once again this month and handed out care packages with food and water, as well as moral support. We had an amazing group engage with them and even discovered we had a TikTok star among them. We are so grateful for the opportunity to gain the trust of this community so that they look to us as a resource in order to meet their many needs.

If your school/group/organization would like to join us or find out what other educational opportunities are available please email us at [email protected] today!
Thank you Donna and Griffin
Donna and her grandson stopped by our office today to drop off donations for our supported Tijuana shelters! They were unable to join our recent Caravan after all but still took the time to bring over these amazing donations including handwritten notes by Griffin for the many shelter families. We are so touched by actions and families like this one teaching lessons of love and cultivating kindness.

Thank yo so much Donna and Griffin for making us smile, we hope to see you in the next Caravan.❤️

Immigrant in Southwest Georgia detention center dies
“Advocates are calling for federal intervention after another person died at Stewart Detention Center in southwest Georgia: Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced a 61-year-old man named Salvador Vargas who was in immigrant detention at Stewart died on Tuesday. They said he died at a nearby hospital due to complications from a stroke.
Vargas is the 11th person to die at Stewart Detention Center, making Stewart the deadliest detention center in the country. Nine of those people have died since 2017 and two were from suicide.”

Since the year 2017, at least 55 people have died within US Immigration detention.
The Stewart Detention Center is a for-profit detention center ran by CoreCivic, the same corporation running the local Otay Mesa Detention Center, the center which cost Carlos Ernesto Escobar Mejia his life and in which 50-year-old Cristian Dumitascu lost his life earlier this year.

Our government cannot continue to put migrant lives at risk, as we know these deaths are entirely preventable. We continue to denounce the necessity of detention, and we are saddened that the current administration has done nothing to prevent or put an end to these tragedies.

Arrest orders are issued for 6 people in the deadly Mexican immigration center fire
A Mexican court issued arrest orders Thursday for six people in relation to the fire that killed 39 migrants at a detention facility this week in the border city of Ciudad Juárez, according to the federal prosecutor leading the investigation.

Sara Irene Herrerías said they include three officials from the National Immigration Institute, two private security guards contracted by the agency and the detained migrant accused of starting the fire. She said five of the six had already been arrested and would face charges of homicide and causing injuries.

At least 39 migrants died after apparently starting a fire inside a holding cell at the facility Monday night. More than two dozen others were injured.

Federal Public Safety Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez said 27 migrants remained hospitalized, all of them in either serious or critical condition. One other migrant had been discharged, she said. The migrant accused of starting the fire suffered only slight injuries and has already been released from the hospital, presumably into custody.

Rodríguez also said the private security firm involved, which she identified as Grupo de Seguridad Privada CAMSA, had a federal contract to provide security at immigration facilities in 23 states. She said it would have its operating permit revoked and face a fine.
