John,
On Tuesday, May 16th, Philadelphia voters will go to the polls to decide the Democratic nominee for mayor in November’s general election.
But while the candidates in this race are running in a Democratic primary, Republicans clearly have their own favorite of the bunch: multimillionaire grocery store magnate Jeff Brown.
In the past few days on the campaign trail, Jeff Brown has:
-
Secured the endorsement of the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police, the same police union that endorsed Trump in 2016,1
-
Gone viral for provoking “audible gasps” from the audience in the first televised debate with dismissive insults directed at Black and brown communities in Pennsylvania,2 and
-
Earned the allegiance of hundreds of Republican voters who have reportedly switched their party registration in order to vote for him in the primary.3
Luckily, Philadelphia voters have a better choice on May 16th— a much better one.
WFP-endorsed candidate for mayor Helen Gym is a former public-school teacher and union organizer who has been a champion for working families on the Philadelphia City Council for the last 6 years. With multiple polls currently showing her in second place in a tight race, we need to get behind Helen now if we are going to power a progressive champion to victory in Philadelphia — the same way we did in the Chicago mayoral race earlier this month.

Yesterday, the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police endorsed Jeff Brown, and it’s not hard to see why. Previously, Brown said that "more police and more money for police" is his number one priority. 3
Meanwhile, Helen Gym believes the key to public safety is expanding investments in our public schools, affordable housing, and mental health mobile crisis units. She’s proposed a $10 billion plan to modernize school buildings, provide free subway transport for students, and guaranteed jobs for teenagers, and will declare a State of Emergency on gun violence to get illegal guns off our streets.
That's why Helen has earned the backing not just of the Working Families Party but of groups representing teachers, city workers, service workers, and working families from diverse communities across Philadelphia.
Helen is a fearless fighter with a proven track record. She’s exactly who we need as the next Mayor of Philadelphia. But while multi-millionaire Jeff Brown can largely self-fund his campaign, Helen relies on grassroots supporters like you, John, to help get her message out to voters.
With just over four weeks to go, will you split a donation between Helen Gym’s campaign and the Working Families Party to help reach more voters? A contribution of any amount will make a difference in what is set to be a very close race.
