** The best and brightest have something to say to the befuddled and bumbling.

Real Clear Energy ([link removed]) (4/13/23) op-ed: "On Thursday, I joined with 434 economists from universities, think tanks, and businesses across the country to convey a message to the American people: “We urge Congress to reject President Biden’s irresponsible budget proposal and work together to address the country’s short-term needs while also committing itself to taking steps toward reducing the federal government’s unsustainable and dangerous fiscal imbalances.' Our open letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, printed below in its entirety and signed by some of the country’s most prominent economic theorists and practitioners, laments the 'anti-growth tax increases and unsustainable budget deficits put forward by the Biden Administration.' It warns that President Biden’s fiscal year 2024 budget proposal doubles down on the disastrous
policies that led 41% of Americans to say they are now worse off economically than they were two years ago. The Biden Administration believes the solution to America’s economic woes is more federal spending and higher taxes. Having increased federal spending by nearly $5 trillion in its first two years, the Biden Administration now proposes additional tax and spending increases totaling $4.7 trillion and $1.9 trillion, respectively. We reject that demonstrably flawed approach."

(4/13/23) reports: "The U.S. government wants way more electric vehicles on American roads. Its goals, which call for EV penetration of new car sales to increase roughly tenfold in 10 years, are causing a kerfuffle. The energy industry is up in arms. Even the auto industry, which has already committed hundreds of billions to EV development, seems nervous. Wednesday, the EPA proposed tight regulations on vehicle emissions for models years 2027 through 2032. The agency believes the proposed rules could result in 67% of all new vehicles sold in America being electric by 2032. Battery-electric vehicle penetration ended Q1 at about 7.8%. 'By proposing these rules, the Biden administration is effectively banning the internal combustion engine,' said American Energy Alliance President Thomas Pyle in a news release. The AEA is an energy policy advocacy group. Pyle, for his part, is a former Republican congressional staffer and worked at Koch Industries. 'To say that such a policy threatens the
freedoms of ordinary Americans who cannot afford electric vehicles greatly understates the danger of these proposed rules,' added Pyle in his statement. 'Before he makes any more moves to take away your car, perhaps President Biden should lead by example and give up his Corvette.'"

(2/1/23) reports: "Actor and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) accidentally filled in a service trench he mistook for a pothole in his Los Angeles neighborhood, the city says. The 'Terminator' actor on Tuesday posted a video to Twitter of himself filling in a hole in the road, saying, 'I always say, let’s not complain, let’s do something about it. Here you go.' But Schwarzenegger unintentionally filled a trench purposely created by SoCal Gas, the city of Los Angeles said. 'This location is a utility trench that relates to active, permitted work being performed at the location by the Southern California Gas Company (Gas Company),' Elena Stern with the Los Angeles Department of Public Works told The Hill. 'The Gas Company placed a temporary asphalt surface, which will then be replaced with a permanent asphalt surface when their permitted work is complete. We have notified the Gas Company of the issue and the need for them to maintain the site pavement until their permanent
paving is constructed.' In his Twitter video, Schwarzenegger said the hole in question had been there for weeks."
