John,

Today the Senate Republicans have failed the American people and the very Constitution itself. Without a fair trial, they have failed to serve as a check on the criminal behaviors of the President and his administration in their attempt to bribe a foreign government to interfere in our election.

One Republican Senator stated, “The House decided to send articles of impeachment that are 'rushed and flawed.'” That’s rich coming from the very party that decided to rush the Senate trial without calling witnesses. And in the words of Senator Kamala Harris, “If there are no witnesses in the Senate trial, it’s a miscarriage of justice.”

What we know now, and frankly have known for some time, is that the Republican Party will stop at nothing to protect the President and his cronies at all costs. While we do not know what the outcome of the Presidential election will be, we know we must do everything we can between now and November to ensure checks and balances in both the House and Senate.
