Dear Friend--
The legislature is back in session next week and, unfortunately,
they're continuing their undemocratic attack on voters' ability to
decide our political future.
Any attempt
to make it harder for people to propose and pass their own laws is an
attack on our core belief - that government works best when people
participate.
That's why Ohio Citizen Action is fighting to stop HJR1. We need
your help to stand up to politicians who are more interested in
consolidating their own power than in representing the people of
Ohio.
If you're ready to take
action, there are several things you can do.
The page includes a letter already written to get you
started, but please feel free to edit. Letters are most
effective when written in your own words.
HJR1 is the only item on the agenda at next week’s hearing in
the House Constitutional Resolutions
Committee. Opponent testimony and a possible vote are
scheduled for 9:00 a.m., Wed. April 19, in Room
017 near the museum in the crypt at the Statehouse: 1
Capitol Square, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
Tune in online Wed. April 19 at 9 a.m. on the ohiochannel.org
Call your state representative to voice your opposition. To leave a
telephone message for your State Representative, call 1-800-282-0253.
Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
After these hours, you can find the phone number for your State
Representative by visiting the website of the House of Representatives
at: www.ohiohouse.gov.
Thank you for taking this
urgent call to action,
Ohio Citizen Action http://www.ohiocitizen.org/
P.S. We had a small, but satisfying victory in our utility
corruption campaign. The Browns announced the early end of their
FirstEnergy Stadium naming rights deal. This should have happened
as soon as they admitted to the bribery, but it's heartening to see
public pressure making a difference in the fight against
corruption.
Help us celebrate with a special contribution to our Earth Day fundraising
campaign. Thank you!
