Dear John,
You may have heard of the “The Polluters over People Act” and what it means, so we want to break it down to you.
"The Polluters Over People Act”, also known as HR-1, is an energy bill that says it’s goal is to lower energy costs, but really it prioritizes corporate profits and Big Oil over everyday Americans.
The act does not lower energy costs for everyday Americans but instead INCREASES the deficit by $2.4 billion over the next decade. While Democrats are striving to lower costs for everyday families, Republicans are advocating for polluters, Big Oil, and mining conglomerates.
Not only are special interests being prioritized over working people, HR-1 reverses environmental protections that safeguard public health and keep air and water clean. To put it simply: This act undermines years of progress in the fight against climate change, and leaves thousands of clean energy workers out of work.
John, last Congress 100,000 clean-energy jobs were created as a direct result of the Inflation Reduction Act being passed – lowering energy bills for families and expanding clean energy production. Rep. Jahana Hayes voted for this historic act, preventing Big Oil from price-gouging Americans when gas-prices were hitting all-time highs.
However, not one Republican in Congress supported President Biden's energy plan, despite being a massive leap towards America's energy independence.
Jahana believes that everyone deserves to live safely and free from pollution, now and for future generations to come. That’s why she’s fighting for legislation that will make energy prices more affordable, create good-paying, clean energy jobs, and ensure America is ready to lead the world in fighting climate change – no matter what. And she’ll do whatever it takes to stop dark money groups from putting pollution over people, and profit over progress.
Thank you,
Chanita, Team Hayes
