John,
With their tiny ears, chonky rears, and outsized personalities, hippos are widely adored. They also help keep their ecosystems healthy, munching on plants and distributing key nutrients. But these beloved animals are on the path to extinction due to habitat loss, drought, poaching and international demand — including from the United States — for hippo parts like teeth, skulls, ivory, skin and meat.
With our allies, the Center for Biological Diversity has petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect hippos under the Endangered Species Act. Safeguards can't come soon enough. Reducing U.S. demand and increasing our conservation efforts are key for hippos.
Tell the Service to protect hippos before they plummet toward extinction. [link removed]
