It's a wonderful time of year to be out and about in the District. If you have business with DC DMV that needs to be completed at one of our Service Centers [ [link removed] ], Team DMV wants your visit to be quick and efficient so you can continue your day and enjoy everything our amazing city has to offer. You can help make your visit to DC DMV a positive experience by planning ahead and reviewing our Document Verification Guide [ [link removed] ] prior to your visit. This will help you determine which documents you will need to bring to a DMV Service Center to complete your transaction in one visit. 

April is National Donate Life Month and in this month's newsletter, we encourage residents to help save a life by registering and becoming an organ donor. It's easy and you can even update your donor status on our mobile app [ [link removed] ]. We are also excited to introduce five new transactions via our mobile app [ [link removed] ].

Additionally, as more pedestrians are out this time of year, please read our pedestrian safety tips on how to follow the rules of the road and obey signs and signals.

Pedestrian Safety

There are many different preferences when it comes to transportation, but at one time or another everyone is a pedestrian.

When drivers maintain safe speeds and practice other safe driving behaviors, safer walking environments are created for you, your loved ones and others in your community.

*Eight Safety Tips for Drivers*


* Look out for pedestrians everywhere, at all times.
* Use extra caution when driving in hard-to-see conditions, such as nighttime or bad weather.
* Slow down and be prepared to stop when turning or otherwise entering a crosswalk.
* Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and stop well back from the crosswalk to give other vehicles an opportunity to see the crossing pedestrians so they can stop too.
* Never pass vehicles stopped at a crosswalk. There may be people crossing that you can’t see.
* Never drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
* Follow the speed limit, especially around people on the street, in school zones and in neighborhoods where children are present.
* Be extra cautious when backing up and look for pedestrians.

* Follow the rules of the road and obey signs and signals.
* Walk on sidewalks whenever they are available.
* If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic and as far from traffic as possible.
* Cross streets at crosswalks or intersections. Look for cars in all directions, including those turning left or right.
* If a crosswalk or intersection is not available, locate a well-lit area where you have the best view of traffic. Wait for a gap in traffic that allows enough time to cross safely; continue watching for traffic as you cross.
* Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways or backing up in parking lots.
* Avoid alcohol and drugs when walking; they impair your abilities and your judgment.
* Embrace walking as a healthy form of transportation - get up, get out and get moving.

In recognition of National Donate Life Month, DC DMV encourages all District residents to register and become an organ donor. Currently, approximately 104,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving transplant in the United States and an estimated 4,200 of them live in the metropolitan area.

DC DMV has a close working relationship with Infinite Legacy [ [link removed] ] and Donate Life DC [ [link removed] ], and we understand firsthand the powerful impact organ donation has on District residents and their families. Many of our neighbors need lifesaving help and organ donation provides that help.

Team DMV is committed to raising awareness, educating the public on facts specific to organ donations and registering donors year-round so we can save more lives. Ask a DMV representative about organ donation and become a lifesaver. ????

DC DMV Introduces Five New Mobile App Transactions

In September 2020, DC DMV announced the launch of our newly enhanced mobile app, "DC DMV at Your Fingertips," where residents can #SkiptheTrip and complete select DMV business on their personal device.

As we continue to enhance our mobile app, we're excited to announce five new mobile app transactions:

* Provisional License Conversion Request
* CDL Human Trafficking Awareness Training

Reminder: Holiday Closure Update

In recognition of DC Emancipation Day, all DC DMV locations will be closed on Saturday, April 15 and Monday, April 17. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, April 18.

Many of DC DMV's services will remain available online [ [link removed] ] or via the agency's free mobile app [ [link removed] ].



Mask Requirement Reminder

DC DMV continues to *_recommend_* the use of masks by employees and customers at *_all_* DC DMV facilities.

Masks are still *_required_* during the in-vehicle portion of a road test.
