ABORTION ACCESS NEWS: Florida Governor Signs Near-Total Abortion Ban

Late last night, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a six-week abortion ban into law.

Let's be clear about what is dangerous about this: everything.

FIRST: Many people don't know they're pregnant after just six weeks. And even for those that do, it will still be almost impossible to overcome Florida's additional barriers to access, including two doctor's appointments and a 24-hour waiting period, before the six-week window closes.

This is effectively a total ban on abortion, hiding in plain sight. If you're ready to fight back, donate right now to help elect more Democratic pro-choice women.

THEN: There are other near-total bans, like Florida's, in the works. We already know, for example, that the Nebraska Legislature is working on a ban very similar to Florida's. Nebraska, like Florida, already had abortion restrictions in place after Roe v. Wade was overturned last June, but is now opting for a harsher ban. The Republicans are showing us again and again: The cruelty is the point.

It was never about a number of weeks. It was never about "women's health." (Stripping a person of their bodily autonomy DOES NOT improve their health.) For anti-choice extremists like Ron DeSantis, it is about making anyone who can get pregnant less free.
