Once upon a time… There was a serene aquatic spot nested among soft sand, abundant with vibrant and colorful biodiversity living harmoniously together in tranquility, among ancient corals, beneath limestone cliffs, overlooking sparkling turquoise waters.
Although this enchanted place sounds like something straight out of a Disney movie, Lighthouse Point exists at the southernmost tip of the island Eleuthera in the Bahamas. But sadly, this real-life story doesn't have a fairy tale happy ending. Enter the villain: Disney itself!
Disney Cruise, to be exact. Yes, that's right -- the corporate curator of magical wonders is responsible for DECIMATING this treasured coral reef habitat with the construction of its $250 MILLION cruise ship pier, demolishing precious marine resources and threatening the several endangered species that flourish there.
Coral reefs around the world are vanishing quickly. Still, for the cruise industry, corporate profits come first, Friend, so Friends of the Earth is committed to defending these iconic underwater colonies from suffering the same fate as Lighthouse Point. But we can't SAVE coral reefs without strong public support from environmentalists like you. Will you let the cruise industry continue to destroy the rest of our precious coral reefs -- OR will you step up and take action right now?
Coral reefs are known as the rainforests of the sea due to their critical role in the ocean ecosystem. Home to bright, tropical aquatic life, these stunning destinations attract tourists from all over the world -- that's exactly why Big Cruise wants to EXPLOIT these natural wonders for cash.
When cruise ships invade, they bring in massive vessel traffic, emit harmful pollutants, dump toxic waste, and carelessly bulldoze over these magnificent structures -- with no regard for the damage to our oceans, our environment, marine life, and local communities.
More coral reefs are in URGENT DANGER of vanishing, Friend. That's why Friends of the Earth is fighting back against these corporate bullies to protect our oceans and defend coral reefs. We're demanding that Big Cruise is held accountable for its environmental destruction and industrial-scale pollution IMMEDIATELY. But we won't have a meaningful impact unless we can demonstrate strong public support.
Here's where environmentalists like you are absolutely CRITICAL to the fight: We need 5,401 more signatures by 11:59 P.M. to DEMAND that the EPA rein in cruise ship pollution NOW. We're counting on you to step up today before the last of our ocean's coral reefs are WIPED OUT by Big Cruise's corporate greed. Are you with us, Friend?
Thanks for protecting our oceans and coral reefs,
Friends of the Earth
