So when a new report found University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)
Presbyterian to be the number one least charitable nonprofit hospital in
the United States, Summer wasted no time before calling out the
profit-driven greed of health care executives.

“The fact that we now know that UPMC is cheating our community out of
$246M on the backs of taxpayers, enough to erase medical debt for 167,000
Pennsylvanians — is shameful beyond reprieve. Instead of promoting the
health of our families, they only care about promoting their
profitability. It’s time for accountability.”

For too long, UPMC has cheated the system — they claim to be a
“non-profit” while bringing in billions and not paying what they should in
taxes. While the rest of us struggled under the crushing weight of a
global pandemic, UPMC made record profits.

UPMC has exploited our hospital workers to the point of a staffing crisis
that puts our loved ones’ lives at risk and left our most marginalized
communities behind without access to care.

Summer isn't afraid to stand up for what she knows is right. She has been
on the frontlines fighting against the harms of UPMC’s monopoly power over
hospital workers and patients in the Pittsburgh area since her days in the
State House.
