John,
After recent violent raids on West Bank villages, the Israeli armed forces did it again. They attacked Palestinians at a holy site during Ramadan and then bombed the captive refugee population in Gaza.
For multiple days last week, the violent Israeli forces wounded and arrested hundreds of Palestinian worshippers at the Al Aqsa mosque—which is situated in illegally occupied Palestine. They completely destroyed the medical clinic and prevented medics from entering.
Then, the military fired bombs on Gaza, where millions of Palestinians are trapped and suffering under a years-long blockade that prevents critical access to life-sustaining necessities. The bombs damaged a children’s hospital, terrifying the patients and traumatizing nearby families.
To be clear: U.S. taxpayers are funding these horrific human rights abuses against Palestinians. The U.S. is the top provider of military aid to Israel.
Recently I met with Dr. Abu-Jamei of the Gaza Community Mental Health Program, who let me know about how almost all Gazan children experience anxiety and depression after years of trauma. And outside of Gaza, Palestinians also endure daily trauma living under the illegal military occupation.
As the only Palestinian-American in Congress, I understand the urgency of ending U.S. complicity in the Israeli apartheid regime.
Our President as well as every single one of my colleagues in Congress should also be calling this horrific violence out. Too many are silent, but I continue to speak up.
We need to keep the spotlight and the pressure on until Palestinians’ humanity and equal rights are finally recognized—and we need leaders who will sustain this push.
Can you chip in today to support my unwavering advocacy for Palestinian rights in Congress?
