Last week, a Texas judge handed down a ruling that could reverse FDA approval of the abortion pill mifepristone.

Medication abortions account for over half of abortions in our country as well as being a critical drug for the treatment of many miscarriages. If it’s taken off the market, it could cause longer wait times at clinics and costlier logistics for patients.

That’s why this decision is so clearly not about women’s health and safety. In fact, it shows complete disregard for scientific evidence and the FDA’s authority. (Mifepristone has been FDA-approved for decades.)

Though decided in Texas, this decision has nationwide repercussions. It undermines the strong reproductive freedom protections we have here in New Jersey.

This ruling was another dark moment for reproductive freedom and for women in our country. But it’s not the end. 

This case will continue to go through the legal process. In the meantime, I will use every resource available to me as the Congresswoman from NJ-11 to protect access to abortion care in our state and across our country. I’m fighting for measures to protect access to abortion medication, birth control, and other types of reproductive care.
