Last week, tornadoes ripped through and around Memphis, destroying homes and ruining businesses. Overnight, the Tipton County Animal Shelter in nearby Brighton, Tenn. was overwhelmed by an influx of stray and lost pets. With so many animals displaced by the storm, the homeless dogs and cats already in the shelter were facing euthanasia due to overcrowding conditions. 

PAWS Chicago volunteers packed a van with pet supplies and headed to Tennessee. They returned to our Medical Center yesterday afternoon with 31 dogs and cats from the Tipton County shelter, met by staff and volunteers offering love, comfort, and all the medical care each animal requires.

Offering help and hope during emergencies is a big part of our No Kill mission. We can say yes when called upon because our PAWS Chicago community always rises to the occasion. 
Follow the Tenessee Rescue

Meet Kiki and Katz, two 6-week-old kittens who were on our transport. Their troubles started long before the tornadoes.

They were recently found inside an abandoned apartment just outside Memphis. Neighbors heard meowing but couldn’t find the kittens. Rescuers realized the cats were hiding in the apartment's walls and had to kick in the sheetrock to save them.

Without PAWS Chicago, they likely faced euthanasia.
Kiki and Katz are safe now. And we have 31 more animals depending on us for love and life.
