There’s no sugar-coating it, John: Arizona has a teacher retention crisis. But why?

Because for years, extreme Republican legislators have put our teachers, students, and schools on the back burner so they could wage culture wars and push divisive, dangerous legislation instead of taking meaningful action to better our public education system.

As a result, teachers are leaving our schools at an alarming rate, and those who remain are underpaid, forced to work through breaks, and are stuck teaching students in a classroom that is too small with supplies that are outdated.

Katie knows just how important it is that we do something to right these wrongs and support the teachers and faculty responsible for raising Arizona’s next generation of leaders. That’s why as part of her First 100 Days Initiative, she established the Educator Retention Task Force, a group dedicated to rebuilding and reinvesting in our public schools.

And as Governor, Katie’s calling on the state legislature to come together and make bipartisan progress to address Arizona’s teacher retention crisis.
