Last week, the Department of Education proposed a new set of guidelines that would allow for "targeted restrictions" on the participation of trans athletes in public schools.
This is disappointing and indefensible. The Biden administration has since tried to portray its proposed rule change as a necessary step to confront the wave of anti-trans legislation coming from state legislatures. But let's be clear, John: if this proposed rule goes into effect, it will only legitimize the exclusion of trans athletes.
As we continue to witness the disturbing trend of anti-LGBTQIA2S+ extremism by the far-right, we must fight back.
We must redouble in our efforts to fight to protect trans athletes and the trans community from these unrelenting attacks. We cannot allow this hateful vitriol go unchecked.
