John,
Thanks to you, last year President Biden and Democrats in Congress approved the largest-ever investment in the IRS―providing $80 billion over 10 years to crack down on wealthy and corporate tax cheats and to modernize the IRS to better serve everyday taxpayers. And, we’re already seeing the benefits of those investments.
Since last year, the IRS has been able to increase over-the-phone assistance by 2 million calls. They are now fully staffed and have reopened 362 Taxpayer Assistance Centers across the country and added 15 more this tax filing season.[1]
The IRS has also implemented a study on the creation of a free, direct tax filing system and the results of that study are expected next month. But, even as we demand the IRS implement a new “Free File” program, corporations such as TurboTax and H&R Block are fighting back:
For the last 20 years, through both overt and covert lobbying efforts, TurboTax and H&R Block have intentionally blocked the IRS from creating a Free File tax return program—in the process wasting American taxpayers’ time and money.[2] They feel threatened by this $80 billion investment and are attempting to undermine the IRS’s ability to serve the American people.
Donate today to help us fight back against the TurboTax and H&R Block lobbying efforts and fight for a “Free File” system that saves taxpayers time and money.
Last year, U.S. taxpayers spent roughly 13 hours and $250 filing their taxes.[3] But it doesn’t have to be this way!
That’s why more than 12,500 people from across the country have signed our petition to new IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel to implement a free, simple tax filing system.
Donate today to power our campaign to demand the IRS use a portion of its $80 billion investment to implement a free, simple, publicly run tax filing system that saves taxpayers time and money.

Thank you for fighting for a tax system that works for everyday people, not just the wealthy and corporations.
