Lisa Anderson | Director of Young Adults
The other day my roommate approached me and asked: “Can I give you a bit of feedback?” Lately, she and I have started (half-jokingly, but not really) approaching each other with “ideas” for improvement, and we always follow up our suggestion with something positive. This time she found me in the kitchen, put her arm around my shoulder and said: “It would be great if you rinsed dishes out before they get dry and crusty.” (feedback) She then finished with: “But that sweater looks good on you.” (compliment) We laughed, and I told her I’d take her feedback and work to get my dishes rinsed out sooner (and certainly before putting them in the dishwasher â gasp!).
While this is a pretty silly example, learning to take feedback and be teachable in big and small things is a great mark of maturity. How good are you in this discipline? Read
