# [#]John,
It’s only been a few months since the historic Inflation Reduction Act became law, and already more than 100,000 well-paying jobs have been created and over $28 billion in new manufacturing investments have been announced. The U.S. is on a path to adding an estimated 9 million additional jobs over the next 10 years, and reducing the average family’s energy costs by about $1,800 a year, all while tackling the climate crisis head-on.
It’s working so well that you’d think everyone in Washington would be celebrating. But it turns out the broad economic benefits of our climate action reforms are threatening to the fossil fuel industry and their minions that form the new GOP House majority. Their top legislative priority is H.R. 1, which we’ve dubbed the “Polluters Over People Act.” It attempts to undo all our recent climate progress and put the U.S. back on the volatile, planet-killing fossil fuel roller coaster.
Earlier this month, they passed this terrible bill out of the House on an almost entirely party-line vote. I voted against it and gave a speech on the House Floor calling out my Republican colleagues for giving huge handouts to fossil fuel polluters when they should be working with Democrats to confront the climate crisis.
From gutting bedrock environmental protections to silencing indigenous voices, rolling back progress on clean energy, adding to the deficit, and giving away public lands to Big Oil, there’s just nothing good to say about their disastrous “Polluters Over People Act.” It’s bad for taxpayers, the economy, families, and the planet.
As this bill heads to the Senate next, I need you to stand with me in defense of a sustainable future. We’ve come too far these past couple of years to let extreme MAGA Republicans take us backward. Add your name to fight back against the GOP’s handouts to Big Oil and demand real investments in clean energy! [[link removed]]SIGN ON [[link removed]]
