ACLU Supporter, a lot has happened over the past couple of weeks: From medication abortion access to trans rights to the events we want to update you on today – what exactly happened in Tennessee.
Last Friday, the Tennessee state legislature voted to expel two out of the three state representatives, Representatives Justin Pearson and Justin Jones, who protested on the chamber floor in the wake of a mass shooting that killed six people, including children. Expelling these two Black representatives left over 136,000 constituents without representation, most of whom are people of color.
While both men were reinstated this week, the event itself was unprecedented and has extreme implications for our democracy. That's why Jeff Preptit, staff attorney at the ACLU of Tennessee who was present for both reinstatements this week, is here to unpack all that's unfolded so far:
