If you haven't experienced the thrill of calling in a tom turkey, what are you waiting for?!

Calling in a tom turkey and chatting with them is often cited as a spring turkey hunter's favorite experience. This fast-paced, engaging hunt is perfect for beginner hunters.

Turkey hunting requires less gear than many other hunts and the small size makes it the easiest big game species to prepare for the dinner table. Wild turkeys are abundant and there is lots of opportunity throughout the state, making it easier to find a location close to home.

Best of all, the season is just around the corner! Youth day is Saturday, April 29 and the season opens to all hunters Monday, May 1 - Saturday, June 3.

Looking for a place to hunt?

Maine has over 17 million acres of extraordinary land available to hunters. When it comes to finding where you want to hunt, you have two options: *public land and public land*.

MDIFW manages over 110,000 acres throughout the state, called Wildlife Management Areas. All MDIFW-owned Wildlife Management Areas (WMA), except Steve Powell WMA (Swan Island) and portions of Steep Falls and Killick Pond WMA, are open for general-law hunting and trapping.
