Dear John,
Founding and re-launching new Future Caucuses, getting featured in PEOPLE Magazine, and speaking at South By Southwest were just a few ways we kicked off the year. While MAP made its presence known on the national stage last quarter, the most important work came from the states.
MAP lawmakers are playing key roles in a national culture-change. They are forging cross-partisan relationships and writing the playbook for the next generation on how to govern effectively. They are uniting, not dividing. Finding common ground and shared interests. Discovering innovative policy solutions through collaboration.… Our lawmakers are on the front line of a healthier political future.
Read on to learn how young lawmakers are transcending polarization and creating outcomes that will impact their communities for decades.
Onward,
Team MAP

Mark your calendars! MAP has several exciting events coming up…

MAP believes the most effective lawmakers know how to build coalitions and work well across lines of difference, especially the partisan divide. The Effective Lawmakers’ Toolbox is a series of trainings we offer young lawmakers. On Tuesday, April 25th, join MAP and experts from the Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL) for a session on the habits of highly effective lawmakers. CEL studies and promotes effective lawmaking across the U.S. state legislatures and in Congress.

Across the country, young elected leaders are transcending polarization and bridging partisan divides to create better outcomes for their shared future. From taking on issues like maternal health to legislator pay, our lawmakers are hard at work finding creative solutions to the most pressing problems. See for yourself by checking out the work they accomplished in the last quarter alone.
MAP tracked a 170% increase of GenZers serving in their state legislature this year, so we got to work galvanizing that energy toward collaborative, effective lawmaking.

With a wave of new young lawmakers taking office, we started the year by launching a nationwide “On the Rise” [[link removed]] tour to celebrate the future-oriented ideas Gen Z and millennials are bringing into their statehouses. It was a great way to connect with this new generation of leadership. Our Future Caucus network hosted events across the country, but here are three events you might find interesting…

Lawmakers came to MAP to refresh their policymaking toolbox
[link removed] [[link removed]]
MAP reached new and returning legislators alike through our training and leadership development programming. Each month, we offer exciting programs to teach lawmakers how to overcome toxic polarization. For example, in March we hosted a virtual negotiation workshop for legislators on coalition building and winning support from legislative colleagues and constituents. Participants took part in an activity where they had to find consensus as members of the House and Senate Budget Conference Committee on a variety of contentious issues.
We mobilized community support for young lawmakers.

During our fourth annual National Week of Action, we saw the mobilization of young people from all corners of the country – in Congress [[link removed]] , in state legislatures [[link removed]] , and at the grassroots [[link removed]] level – to join together and showcase examples of good governance. We’re building a new narrative around what is possible when legislators work together.
All of this convening led to real impact…

MAP recently released a piece [[link removed]] on the interesting story behind HB2730 [[link removed]] , a bipartisan maternal health bill in Oklahoma. Two Future Caucus members were able to tackle the issue together – despite being an unlikely pair. Watch the video [[link removed]] to learn more about how the two legislators formed an alliance in order to get results for their state.

This quarter, MAP was able to catch the attention of major national platforms such as PEOPLE Magazine, CSPAN, Politico, The Hill, and South By Southwest. MAP was also able to land hits in local outlets for our work in the states – being featured in Sunday newspapers, local broadcast, and radio networks.
