Champaign Centennial, Edison, and East Dubuque win team honors in NASP Illinois State Archery Tournament
SPRINGFIELD – Students from Champaign Centennial High School took first place in the high school division of the 2023 National Archery in the Schools (NASP) Illinois State Tournament in Champaign March 25-26.
Champaign Centennial won the division title with a score of 3,400 during the two-day competition (dates). Champaign Central High School finished second (3,390) and East Dubuque High School finished third (3,329).
In the middle school division, Champaign’s Edison Middle School claimed the title with a score of 3,332. Jefferson Middle School in Champaign finished second (3,297) and East Dubuque students finished third (3,250).
In the elementary school division, students from East Dubuque took first place with a score of 2,844. Next Generation School in Champaign finished second (2,798) and Armstrong-Potomac in Vermilion County finished third (2,769).
The top individual performance in the tournament belonged to Shayna Singh from Champaign Central with a score of 293. Westin Ballantine from East Dubuque High School recorded the top male score of 289.
About 900 students were eligible to compete in the NASP Illinois State Tournament, which was hosted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources at Champaign Centennial High School this year. Top finishers qualified for the NASP U.S. Eastern Nationals to be held May 11-13 in Louisville, Ky.
