Duckworth: GOP Puts the Well-Being of the NRA Over Families

In an interview on Tuesday with CBS News, radical Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) said she believed Republican lawmakers were continuing to put the well-being of the National Rifle Association (NRA) over Americans and their families.

Duckworth said, “We can right now today pass universal background checks. We could pass a ban, an assault weapon ban. We could pass a ban on high-capacity magazines. Those last two things are the common denominators involved in mass shootings in this country.”

Fact check: no, they are not common denominators.

She added, “We need to remind the voters which legislators are the ones that are kowtowing to the gun lobby and to the NRA, and who is actually working to protect them and their children in their schools. And, frankly, we need to take that message back to the American people, and the people need to vote.”

Fact check: the notion that the Democrat Party is the protector of American families and children in schools would be laughable if it weren’t such an outrageous lie.

Duckworth added, “If you are tired of gun violence and you’re tired of the fact that we have had more mass shootings in this country that there are days in the year, then you need to call your Republican legislators and ask them why they continue to put the well-being of the NRA and gun manufacturers over the well-being of your neighbors and your families and your kids.”

Duckworth’s demonization of the NRA, not a single member of which has ever committed a mass shooting, is typical blather from the Democrats, who don’t care about stopping gun crime. They care about disarming law-abiding citizens.

In 2006, Duckworth, a Democrat, made a failed run for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and was subsequently appointed as director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA). Her appointment was made by then-Governor Rod Blagojevich, who was later impeached and sentenced a 14-year prison term on corruption charges. According to a 2008 audit by Illinois Auditor General William Holland, the IDVA under Duckworth was guilty of numerous transgressions, including financial mismanagement, poor record-keeping, failure to inventory equipment, and abuse of travel budgets...
