Dear John,

Last week, two Democratic lawmakers were expelled from the Tennessee State House for standing with gun violence protestors in the wake of the Covenant School shooting. This was an outrageous and undemocratic retaliation against representatives who were exercising their rights — and we absolutely cannot normalize it. 

Kids are dying in schools, and Tennessee Republicans are more upset by the protest than they are by the violence. 

Although both Rep. Jones and Rep. Pearson have been reinstated as of today, the appalling decision to expel them in the first place is a threat to our very democracy.
