The news out of the Supreme Court this week was STUNNING. Clarence Thomas ignored federal law and basic government ethics by accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in trips from a right-wing billionaire. Thomas went on lavish trips, flights on private jets, and enjoyed expensive dining for more than 25 years, and didn't disclose a dime of it to the public. Thomas is required to disclose gifts of more than $415 under the Ethics in Government Act - so it's clear he broke the law as a member of the highest court in the land, and we can't let this stand!

In the House, we're in the minority, and can't investigate this ourselves. But in the Senate, we can.  We can't leave an investigation in the hands of Chief Justice John Roberts. We need an independent investigation of Clarence Thomas, and if need be, criminal charges if it's proven he broke the law.  Justice Thomas needs to be investigated by the Senate Judiciary Committee, and we need clearer ethics standards imposed with regulations to ensure the integrity of the judiciary.

For over thirty years Clarence Thomas has sat on the highest court of our nation, where he's supposed to rule on pivotal cases by being impartial and apolitical.  If you're accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts from the same person who funds many of these right-wing lawsuits you're ruling on, you've failed that test of impartiality. That's why we need an independent investigation of Clarence Thomas and I hope you join me in taking action!
