For nearly a year, since the Dobbs decision ended the constitutional right to abortion, we’ve been seeing state after state limit abortion rights (or ban abortion outright!) and continue to lead a crusade against reproductive freedom. Last Friday, a federal judge in Texas took the next step in that crusade when he ruled in favor of removing FDA approval from mifepristone, the safe and effective prescription drug used both for early termination of pregnancy and for miscarriage management. But now for the good news! A coalition that I lead along with the Washington AG won our request to preserve access to mifepristone in the 18 states that joined us. This is a HUGE win, John, for reproductive freedom for Oregonians and millions of others across the country. But the ruling by the Texas judge shows just how fragile these freedoms are. The decision is unfair, unsafe, and incredibly harmful to millions of Americans. It is also legally wrong, and we are hopeful it will be overturned so anyone anywhere will be able to obtain an early abortion with this safe prescription medication. I need your support to continue the fight for our reproductive rights. Even in Oregon we are at risk.
