Friend,
Tomorrow the Massachusetts House of Representatives is voting on the so-called Tax Relief bill and taxpayers are not being treated fairly in the bill.
In 1986 voters approved a tax cap that requires the State House to return excess revenue to the people who paid into the state. Last year when the state had a huge surplus of revenue, Governor Charlie Baker invoked Chapter 62F and sent every taxpayer a refund.
It was a Taxachusetts miracle!
As you may remember, Democrat leadership was less than pleased with $3 billion going back to the taxpayers. With very little notice, the House is trying to overturn the law tomorrow.
Instead of taxpayers getting a percentage based on what they paid to the state, the Democrats want to send just a flat rate check to everyone. It is a redistribution of wealth and it is unfair!
Speaker Mariano said "Currently, the credit is applied to the personal income tax liability of all taxpayers on a proportional basis, resulting in higher credits for those who paid more in taxes. The bill proposes adjusting the credit to an equal amount per taxpayer, rather than a rebate based on a percentage of what taxpayers paid the Commonwealth."
Republican legislators are fighting to remove this unfair and unnecessary
change but they are waging an uphill battle.
Your refund should be based on what you pay. It is a refund - not a government handout.
Once again, Beacon Hill is shortchanging the middle class all in the name of economic justice. This is the opposite of justice! I urge you to call your Representative and tell them to oppose all changes to 62F.
Let Beacon Hill know that it is time to stop abusing taxpayers!
