Here are some updates from today.

The Shelby County Board of Commissioners, which is home to Memphis, Tennessee, voted to send recently expelled state Rep. Justin Pearson (D) back to the Tennessee General Assembly. The commissioners voted 7-0 to reappoint Pearson, though the remaining six Republican commissioners did not attend the meeting.

In related news, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) led a letter sent to the U.S. Department of Justice in light of the Tennessee General Assembly’s recent expulsions of two Democratic state representatives.

The Arizona House voted 46 to 13 to expel state Rep. Liz Harris (R) over ethics violations. The move comes one day after the House Ethics Committee released a report determining that Harris violated House rules when she invited a constituent to share false claims about elections and other conspiracies at a committee hearing.

Here are some updates from the last few days.

On Tuesday, April 11, the Indiana House gave final approval to House Bill 1334, a bill that would add ID requirements to mail-in ballot applications. Now that the bill has passed both chambers of the Legislature, it heads to Gov. Eric Holcomb (R).

On Monday, April 10, the North Dakota Legislature approved a proposed amendment that would restrict the ballot measure process in the state. Senate Concurrent Resolution 4013 will go before the state’s voters during the November 2024 election for approval.

Here's what to expect coming up.

On May 16, an Arizona court will hear oral argument on Abe Hamadeh's request to hold a new trial in his lawsuit contesting his loss in the 2022 Arizona attorney general race. Hamadeh's contest was dismissed in December following his original trial.
