I want to make sure you saw this, Friend. LCV, with our friends at House Majority Forward, has just launched an ad campaign to hold House Republicans accountable for voting to put corporate polluters’ interests ahead of people like you and me.

Last month, we told you about H.R. 1, also known as the “Polluters Over People Act.” House Republicans symbolically made this massive giveaway to big oil companies their number one priority after taking a majority and passed it in a tight vote just weeks ago.

The GOP has made their priorities clear — they chose polluters over people. Now, we have to spread the word. Our ads are running in seven districts in California and New York that are currently held by House Republicans who voted to pass H.R. 1. We need to make sure their constituents know that their representatives answer to Big Oil, not to them.

This dirty energy legislation would take us backwards in the fight against climate change, locking us into harmful fossil fuel production for decades. It would greenlight dangerous oil and gas pipelines and slash clean energy investments. And it would strip communities of their rights to oppose pollution and protect their health and safety. We can’t afford for any of these provisions to become law.

Even though we have a pro-environment majority in the Senate, some polluter-friendly provisions of H.R. 1 are still at risk of becoming part of a deal to fast-track energy permitting. We must encourage senators to stay strong and get the word out that there is no compromise on our health and future (or we must encourage senators to stay strong and prevent more fossil fuel giveaways that damage our health and future) etc.

Campaigns like this one help us hold the line — by showing there’s a cost to choosing polluters over people.

These representatives are completely out of step with their constituents who want a clean energy future. Our ads call on constituents to make their voices heard to this extreme majority by calling Congress and demanding they stop protecting Big Oil.
