We are nearly half way into the month of April, and there have been more mass shootings in the United States this year than days passed in 2023. Just this week, our nation experienced yet another deadly mass shooting in Kentucky. Our elected officials have a responsibility to put a stop to these senseless, deadly acts of violence — and that is why WA Senate Democrats are taking action.

Last Friday and Saturday, WA Senate Democrats passed two key gun violence prevention bills off the Senate floor — a ban on assault weapons and an extension to the waiting period to purchase a firearm.

We know these bills will prevent another devastating tragedy — but unfortunately, WA Senate Republicans do not agree. While people continue to die from gun violence, Senate Republicans want to frame this legislation as “job-killing”. These bills are not “job-killing” — they are life-saving.

Passing these bills should be an easy decision, but the other side of the aisle continues to slow us down. There is still more work to do, so please join us in this fight to save lives.

The assault weapons ban heads back to the state House for another vote before it is signed into law. If passed, Washington will join nine other states and D.C. in banning these deadly weapons.

Thank you for standing with us,

Team WSDC
