Friends,

Now that the Legislative break is over, and law makers have returned to Saint Paul, the DFL is wasting no time to move their unconstitutional and ill-conceived gun laws. Friday we will be hearing the Governor’s Public Safety budget which will presumably be the first step in putting these new provisions into law.

These bills are sensationalist and prey on the emotions of people, usually following acts of terrorism. If the DFL Trifecta were serious in pursuing meaningful change democrats would move to stop releasing criminals early for violent crimes. Try enforcing the laws on the books.

Like in this instance, where 2 felons who were legally barred from possessing firearms, were out on early release, got into a spat and 15 people were shot. One had a prior weapons charge; one had a prior for domestic violence. Why were they out on the streets?

Here are the bills that are being proposed.

SF 1116, Firearm Transfer; Background Check required; Criminalization and Denial

SF 1117, Extreme Risk, “Red Flag” Orders of Protection
