Hi John,
There has been a lot of discussion around Judge Kacsmaryk’s decision around FDA-approved medication for abortion—mifepristone—and what comes next.
Right now, mifepristone is still available where it’s legal. But access is under threat nationwide. Here’s what we know and what you can do to take action:
What happened:
An extremist Trump-appointed judge has issued a court decision in a blatant attempt to impose a national ban on mifepristone, even where it’s legal. This decision was not based on safety, science, or what is best for public health. This decision was about a judge promoting his own ideological opinion over medical science and the FDA’s expertise. The Biden administration has appealed the ruling and the case is still making its way through the courts this week.
The Impact:
In 2020, more than half of all abortions in the United States were via medication abortion care. The impact of this judge’s decision would be nationwide and devastate access to medication abortion. Make no mistake; the harm will fall hardest on people working to make ends meet, especially people of color.
Take Action:
This week, All* Above All and our partners launched a petition urging President Biden to ensure access to mifepristone and to take all necessary action to protect patients and providers. Click here to add your name:
