Late last week, a Trump-appointed federal judge in Texas, hand-picked by anti-abortion activists, issued a radical ruling suspending the FDA’s two-decade-old approval of mifepristone: a safe, effective, abortion medication.
Incredibly, this judge issued a nationwide injunction which included states like Washington where abortion is safe and legal.
Thankfully, Bob and his team were prepared. They previously filed their own lawsuit in Spokane against the FDA for its unnecessary over-regulation of mifepristone. In other words, Bob’s lawsuit sought to expand access to mifepristone.
Thanks to Bob’s strategy, an hour after the Texas ruling, a federal judge in Spokane ruled that the FDA must keep mifepristone available in the 17 states and District of Columbia that joined Bob’s coalition.
We have to work together to ensure that everyone — in Washington and across the country — is able to access reproductive health care. If you agree, please join us in this fight by adding your name to our petition today.
Mifepristone was first approved 23 years ago and has since been used effectively by millions of people for medication abortion — proven to be safer than Tylenol. It is a safe, critical part of protecting reproductive freedoms and personal health care decisions.
The people of Washington state have voted again and again to preserve access to reproductive freedom. We cannot leave that freedom up to a radical judge in Texas to determine. Bob made it a priority to lead a national effort to preserve abortion access in Washington state — and he won. Check out Bob’s interview on KUOW for more information.
These cases have the potential to end up at the Supreme Court. To stay updated on Bob’s work and be a part of our fight, add your name here.
