Power the Vote is launching the Blue Texas
project to fight + fund everywhere!
John,
It’s an old experiment.
You place (gently) a grasshopper into a mason jar, and close the lid.
It hops like mad to get out, bumping the top and the sides of the jar. Bing!Bang!Thump!
After a few tries, it’s a little less enthusiastic. Bing!Bang!
Pretty soon it’s jumping with even less gusto. Thump …Bump.
Soon enough ... it stops trying altogether.
That’s when you lift the top off of the mason jar.
You’d think that feisty grasshopper would see the blue sky and launch itself right out of that mason jar, wouldn’t you?
But it doesn't.
It just sits there, calmly.
Not because it can’t jump free. But because it won’t.
It has learned to be helpless.
That’s what “learned helplessness” is all about. And once learned, that lesson is tough to shake.
So what on earth does “learned helplessness” have to do with you, and voting, and Texas?
As it turns out, everything.
Because the Texas GOP has figured out that if they can convince people that their vote doesn’t matter … whether by voter suppression, or gerrymandering, or making voting confusing and inconvenient …
…it’s the same as placing a lid over the mason jar.
Except this time, you’re the grasshopper.
Pretty soon, voters see “no point” in voting because “it doesn’t make a difference,” or “nobody listens anyway,” or “it’s a waste of time.”
And they end up sitting quietly at the bottom of the mason jar.
But then there are folks like you.
Who won’t ever stop jumping.

We absolutely refuse to learn the helplessness lesson that the GOP wants to shove down our throats. And we’re spreading the word.
Because voting does matter. Your voice does make a difference.
If it didn’t, they wouldn’t be trying so darn hard to silence you.
That’s why our Blue Texas [[link removed]] community supports both 24-7-365 voter protection programs and the TX Democratic nominees that would otherwise be left behind.
By fighting and funding everywhere, we’re showing Texans across the state that there’s a reason to fight. We’re proving that we’re not helpless.
We’re lifting the top off of the mason jar.
Now we all just have to jump as high as we can.
Are you in?
Then join us today.
Onward, upward, and in solidarity~
The Blue Texas Team

P.S. As part of our Blue Texas community, you’ll support permanent voter protection programs in Texas (making sure that there’s always someone there fighting fiercely for Texas voters and voting rights) and those Democratic nominees who have the least support.
We use a “bottom up bathtub” method of funding those nominees, distributing funds first to those who have raised the least – making sure that the nominees in cherry-red gerrymandered districts that would otherwise be left behind have funds to reach the voters in their communities. (And we know from experience that it encourages people to run in those gerrymandered districts in the first place!)
We also meet monthly (virtually) to hear from great guest speakers and find out what’s going on around the state – both in voter protection, but also with other great organizations that are doing wonderful things in Texas.
Our next meeting is coming up soon.
Will you join us?
We’ll be so proud to have you!
We Fund Voter Protection
Republicans have the one-two punch of voter suppression and gerrymandering. Blue Texas is the counterpunch.
We're a community that boosts both a consistent, year-round voter protection army and Democratic nominees for Texas state legislature.
