Dear John,
In today’s struggling economy, many hard-working Americans are faced with difficult financial decisions. With high food prices impacting more and more households, I am grateful to our local organizations and volunteers who help meet the needs of our community.
On a recent tour of the Tarrant Area Food Bank, I saw the charitable work another outstanding TX-12 based organization is doing to help those in need, and I am proud to showcase their work.
The Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) was founded in 1982 by a group of Fort Worth residents to assist those struggling to make ends meet. Since its founding, the food bank has grown to reach 13 counties in North Texas, serving over 450,000 individuals living in poverty.
TAFB runs an efficient operation that allows them to “rescue” more than 60 million pounds of food a year and distribute over 1 million meals a week to families in need. As a member of Feeding America, which is a nationwide network of food banks, TAFB serves our area as the regional clearinghouse and primary source of donated food for other charities.
Using a network of over 500 associate agencies in North Texas, which includes senior centers, food pantries, schools, and many other organizations, TAFB provides critical food assistance.
TAFB collects healthy food from local farms, grocery stores, fisheries, restaurants, and food distributors throughout the region.
While shelf-stable products like canned foods, rice, and pasta are an important part of the food bank’s inventory, TAFB is committed to providing families with complete meals, which include fresh produce and protein. Making these options available promotes overall well-being by supplying balanced and healthy meals.
As Fort Worth’s population continues to grow, the support they provide our neighbors in need will become even more important.
Please know I will continue to advocate for the needs of our district in my role as Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee. I am committed to lower federal spending to tame inflation and reduce costs for everyday goods like gas and groceries.
While we are in the midst of tough times, I look forward to what is to come, and I am encouraged by charitable organizations like the Tarrant Area Food Bank and its work to improve the lives of others.
Sincerely,
Kay Granger Member of Congress
