It’s clear that House Republicans are holding our economy hostage to gut the essential benefits that millions of Americans rely on – including Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
The House GOP has signaled support for cuts to critical benefits. The Republican Study Committee even released a 2023 budget calling for measures that would dismantle or reduce them in some way.
The last time Republicans threatened to create an economic meltdown to force spending cuts, the government shut down for months and the country was brought to the brink of default. We can’t let that happen again.
